Tablet Repair!

Broken Tablet

A client brought in this Samsung Galaxy A 8.0 tablet that doesn't charge. It is dead as a doornail even when plugged in and pressing the power button yields no signs of life. Apparently it quit working quite a while ago, so there's no suprise that the battery is completely drained!

Lets fix it!

Tablet Internals

Cracking the tablet open reveals a few components and a big honker of a battery. The part that we're interested in is this small circuit board at the bottom.

The old charge board

This small component handles charging as well as some other functions like the loudspeaker. If we shine a flashlight very carefully into the micro usb port, we can see that the pins on the left are completely destroyed. This is likely from being dropped on the charger or having the power cable yanked out.

Replacing the charge board

No problem, lets put a brand new charge port in!

Fixed Tablet

Success!!! The tablet is now charging! This is the first time this screen has lit up in months. This repair took about a half an hour and the client payed less than 40 dollars!

Here's to another successful repair!
